Veteran WSOP player wins his biggest prize yet in Event 50

Houston, Texas poker pro Panayote Vilandos topped his many previous tournament cashes in World Series of Poker NLHE events over the weekend with a resounding victory in event 50 - $5,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em, earning himself a career best of $952,694 after surviving a stellar field of 1001 entrants.

For the poker vet, the victory delivered his second WSOP bracelet - his first was in the 2009 edition of the series, where he won the $1,500 buy-in NLHE event, in which 2,506 players entered.

This year's event was especially tough, and took an extra day to finalise with Vilandos returning to the felt at level 31 to battle it out with young guns Kyle Julius and Dan Smith on the last day.

Confounding some predictions, and despite having the lowest chip count att he start of here-handed action, Vilandos despatched both at level 33 to emerge as winner, with Smith going home at third with a pay check for $368,943 and Kyle claiming the runner-up prize of $589,687.

The final table had plenty of firepower, with players like Matt Giannetti, Tommy Vedes and Amir Lehavot all presenting strong potential threats.
