Although Betfair has not given its reasons for the decision, Political Betting surmises it is rooted in the French ban on betting exchanges and a desire to comply with legal requirements in regulated markets. Attempts to enter Betfair's French website met with failure this week. Outside France, both Will Hill and Ladbrokes are offering odds. Key competitors for the French top spot are incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy and socialist contender Francois Hollande, with the odds on Hollande at present.
