BETFAIR WILL NOT ACCEPT BETS ON FRENCH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

French ban on betting exchanges the likely cause

Betfair will not be accepting bets on the outcome of the French presidential election next month, according to the information website Political Betting.com.

Although Betfair has not given its reasons for the decision, Political Betting surmises it is rooted in the French ban on betting exchanges and a desire to comply with legal requirements in regulated markets.

Attempts to enter Betfair's French website met with failure this week. Outside France, both Will Hill and Ladbrokes are offering odds.

Key competitors for the French top spot are incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy and socialist contender Francois Hollande, with the odds on Hollande at present.
