Jan 2012 Update: The situation regarding playing online poker in the USA looks set to change in 2012. Although playing online is not illegal at the Federal level, several States have laws that expressly forbid residents gambling online. However, with the DOJ announcement in December 2012 that the federal Wire Act is no longer regarded as an enforceable law for indicting online poker rooms, 2012 looks set to see regulation in the USA at State level, for some players at least. Absolute Poker was set up in 2003 and resides on the Absolute Poker Network, using it's own proprietary software which was the centre of major controversy some time back but has since been revamped. The company itself is located in Costa Rica, but is 100% owned by a company fronted by the ex-chief of the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, a self-regulated Indian Reservation in the heart of Canada that hosts and regulates (I use the term loosely!) a lot of online gambling companies....
